Cynthie has been an artist her entire life; however, dedication to her family and a career in dentistry as a dental assistant occupied most of her time. It was later in life that she chose to return to college and complete a Fine Art degree in Graphic Design from Sam Houston University while taking every opportunity to participate in as many Fine Art classes as possible.
After graduating Cynthie started her own business in Graphic Design while continuing in her Fine Art studies. Now she is exclusively pursuing her fine art journey. Starting the journey in watercolor by studying under Ed Hoeg, Nicolas Simmons and V. Vaughan. Later working primarily in pastels, she has studied with Bob Rohm, Doug Dawson, Greg Barnes and Jeanne Rosier Smith. Taking inspiration from people and the glory of nature her scope of work is described as realism with an impressionistic tendency. Cynthie has been awarded recognition for her work throughout her life and continues to study and learn. She is a member of the Pastel Society of the Southeast, Austin Pastel Society, Central Texas Pastel Society and the Pastel Society of the Southwest.
“I am constantly amazed with nature and our connection to this planet earth. The perpetual give and take within the circle of life is forever on my mind as I view nature, realizing that a moment is instantaneous, making that moment a passing memory. Capturing nature and its creatures in that moment has always been my focus when creating. I am attracted to color, shape and light. The balance and guidance of these elements specifically leads the eye around a painting like a dance. I find the challenge in creating what nature shows me and am always looking for a great dance!” Cynthie Hanks
