Jose M. Blanco is a Spanish-American artist. He was born in Seville, Spain. In that city, he lived and studied until he was 37 years old, when he decided to move with his wife and children to Austin, Texas, where he established his art studio and residence. While living in Seville, he had an art studio along with his brother Juan A. Blanco, a well-known Sevillian religious sculptor. Once in Austin, Jose began designing and creating mosaics for custom home builders and homeowners. However, after more than a decade alternating mosaic art and painting, Jose decided to devote his time to his central passion: oil painting. Influenced by the cultural heritage of his hometown and by Sevillian artists like Murillo and Velazquez and by other artists like Sorolla and Sargent, Jose's paintings are full of light and colors. He creates commissioned oil painted portraits. His body of work largely consists of landscape paintings of Texan and American scenery, as well as pieces that capture the cultural essence of his birthplace, Andalusia, Spain.
