Art has always been core to my being. Throughout all of my life I’ve carried my art with me in my journey. Drawing the powerful visual of the human portrait, and its diverse features, has always interested me in my own work, and its where I started. The eyes, the window to the soul, have always been an interest of mine to create, due to its innate relevance to how we experience life.
My childhood drawing obsession was sparked by a small closet in my childhood home which held an assortment of random art supplies. This hobby uncovered a lifelong passion for the arts. After the early passing of my mother in 2007, my passion became a place of healing, a place to appreciate and document life. This broadened my way of resonating with the art I created and encountered. I fell in love with the expansiveness of the world of art and the way it complements life and promotes authenticity. My art is an instrument to process powerful emotions, thoughts, and ideas.
I developed more technical proficiency through many years of taking fine art classes. In my late teenage years, my understanding of representing meaning multiplied as I explored existentialism, religion, psychology, philosophy, and mythology. While in college for studio drawing and painting, I continued to expand my mind and art practice, studying intermediate figure drawing in the heart of the Italian Renaissance in Florence, Italy. In Florence, I fell in love with my fellow artist, now wife, and mother to our son: Robert Benjamin Lewis. Now in my adult years and as a parent, I continue to develop my practice with a larger sense of responsibility to spread valuable meaning and complex, yet relatable feelings through my art, in an effort to be more realistic, and less cliché.
Join me, as I attempt to create work that resonates deeply with our shared human experience. There are many creations I want to bring into this world, and I’m excited to explore them with you.
