Being naturally inclined toward wandering, exploration, and social concepts, Shawn Thomas' work has grown into a mix of opportunistic studies of public scenes that interest him and efforts to express ideas he has and things he's learned.
At home, those scenes are generally specific to downtown Austin, and with his somewhat obsessive interest in water, to various areas on or around Barton Creek.
In addition, with opportunities he has to travel, he always makes time to wander and explore various areas of the places he find himself in.
For him, the art of photography offers an opportunity to stop and explore those things that at first may appear to be mundane or well understood, but can share new secrets when studied further.
He hopes in sharing his photographic work others who do not always have the necessary time, inclination, or equipment may have a new opportunity to see and be affected by the beauty of the world around us.
He believes that on our way through every day we pass by many things that might have a story to tell if we had the time and inclination to stop and explore.
In our busy, fast-paced world, finding even the smallest amounts of time to give to such things can be extremely difficult. But it can also be very rewarding when we begin to discover and become inspired by the infinite beauty in everything around us.
He endeavors to open himself to that discovery and inspiration and subsequently create images that open a door for others to do the same. And, he's come to discover that those images often inspire him to look at things differently in his personal and professional life and to explore everything further to see what he can find.
